Use pencils, markers, crayons, collage or paint to make an image, then scan it. Work with your image after you scan it. You could draw in black and white, scan an image, and color it in a graphics program. Later, you can add words and frames with a computer.

Take a photo with a digital camera or iSight camera. Pay attention to what's behind your subject. Take more than one photo to get it right. Crop and adjust your photo in iPhoto or other image editing software later on. Use PhotoBooth (on a Mac with an iSight camera) to grab a photo and have fun with some of the special effects.

Use online tools for making art, then save them with Skitch or another screen shot tool. For example, have fun with the tools at:
    • NGA Art Zone - use the many cool tools at the National Gallery of Art's Kid Zone to make great images.
    • Crayola Digi-Color - use online versions of your favorite Crayola markers, crayons, etc. to create an image.
    • Imagination Cubed - draw online by yourself or with a friend, then save your image by email or using a screen shot (e.g. Skitch).

Don't Forget!!! You can grab a copy of your online creation with Skitch or another screen shot tool, and save it to the place where you're working on your project.

  • Use the Instant Alpha option in iWork Pages to make part of your image transparent.
